A word on scheduling.

So I registered for my fall classes about two months ago, getting all the credits I need to qualify for compensation. I live about an hour from school, so I try to clump my classes into two days, Mondays and Wednesdays. It wasn’t until today that I realized that I have FIVE hours between my film and math class. What the hell am I supposed to do for FIVE hours!

Some friends recommended a knitting or underwater basket weaving, but I politely declined. The problem is that this only happens on Mondays and it is incredibly hard to get a class in the middle of the day that meets only once a week. It’s not like “underwater basket weaving” is bad, it just meets on Mondays and Thursdays.

Ive spent a good part of my day looking for a class to fill the gap. Ive spoke to three different counselors, “crashed” four classes, and have walked the campus seven or eight times with no success. I have a sneaking suspicion that I’m screwed. Any ideas of things I could do?

Residency

Well I haven’t posted anything for a few weeks. Apparently. I’ve been too busy tying to get school and work in order. So I’ll start with the most important thing. As some of you may know, I attended a popular trade show called Macworld. I was not able to see the keynote but I did get to touch to fruits of it. I’m not going into great detail but the Macbook Air is insanely thin.

On retuning home, I stopped by my new school to pay for registration. To my surprise the wanted to charge me 173 dollars a unit. This is a significant increase from the usual 20 dollars. That’s right, a 865% increase. Long story short, I didn’t qualify for residency. So I’m back at Santa Barbara City College, where coincidentally I qualify for residency.

Being a generally optimistic person, unlike this guy, I believe this was for the best. First, this school has a better video production program. And second, it’s closer to my new job. I now work at the front gate of a popular boating destination, Cachuma Lake! If you haven’t already guessed I’m employed by the state. I am now making double what I previously was being paid as a store clerk. The only downside is that as a Ranger Trainee I don’t receive benefits. (Which I already have thanks have thanks to my father)

Being that the stock market is a great mystery to mankind, I could invest my new found wealth. The only problem that is I have no idea how. I think I’ll put up a want ad for a financial adviser on Craigslist right next to the casual encounters section.

As for some music, this band is called Maritime. I found it this morning on iTunes in the recommendation section. Have a listen and tell me what you think.

Here’s to those people who are relying on Christmas Money

After receiving two speeding tickets in one week, I find myself with no money for Christmas. Normaly I wouldn’t care but now that I am an “adult” I feel obligated to getting people things. So I had to get creative. For example, I gifted Chris SMB3 for his Wii using points that I received for Christmas the previous year. This reminds me of a Seinfeld episode on “Regifters.” But I did do something I have never done before, spend over 20 dollars on someone other than myself. I bought my dad a Wii. And no I did not spend 600 dollars on Amazon.com, I waited in line for 14 hours at my local BestBuy. But I did find something good in this situation, Bat For Lashes. I’m not going into great detail of why I like them because it’s late and I’m tiered. So here is my favorite song by them called, Prescilla.

This Made Me Remember How Much I Like Pornography

I’ve been listening to this for a few days and I thought I would share it with you. The  song is called “Use It” by The New Pornographers. They have a new album out but I don’t like it very well, really this is the only song I like of theirs. I like this song so much that I find myself singing it out loud in public places. As it turns out there is is a group of people that have the same urge to sing as I do, on Facebook. Which brings me to my next point, Social networking. If you haven’t noticed yet I added a new link to my blogroll. Some would call Mixx.com a Digg clone but I see an image section. It’s located on the home page as both a link at the top of the page and a thumbnail veiwer in the sidebar. It’s wonderful. Anyways, heres the song for your musical enjoyment.
